The Cass cross country team won first place at the Adairsville Invitational on Oct. 9.

The Cass girls came in second, just four points away from the first place spot. The runner who crossed the line first for the Cass girls was Hannah Hood.

The senior has been running throughout her high school years and according to head cross country coach, David Rawlins, “has become a very competitive runner.”

As a veteran on the team, Hood has become a role model for her fellow female runners.

“She is a team leader and runners look up to her,” Rawlins said.

At this point in the season, the end is drawing near and the state championship meet, set for Nov. 10 in Carrollton, is fast approaching. Rawlins said he would like to see Hood qualify for the event.

“We hope that Hannah will qualify for the state meet on Nov. 1 [at the region championship] in Pickens County,” Rawlins said.

Not only is Hood a good runner as far as time is concerned, but she is good from a coach’s perspective because of her work ethic.

“Hannah is very coachable and tries really hard,” Rawlins said.

As a senior, Hood plans to attend Kennesaw State University and would like to run on a collegiate level.

“She does have opportunities to run at the next level,” Rawlins said.
