Woodward Academy junior Terry Googer plans to play wide receiver in college but he sure is enjoying his time at quarterback.

Especially after last Friday, when Googer had a 12-yard run to tie the score in the fourth quarter against St. Pius, then a 39-yard touchdown pass to Conor Pilch for a final of 20-14. Googer finished with 126 passing yards and 81 rushing yards.

With the win, the War Eagles earned their fourth straight victory and are now in second place in Region 6-AAA, thanks to a stout defense and improvements by their quarterback.

“I’ve got better at staying in the pocket,” Googer said. “Last year, I scrambled out when I wasn’t supposed to—when the pocket was still there. I’ve been able to stay in the pocket this year and trust my line and throw some pretty good passes.”

While this outing was very impressive for the 6-foot-4 Googer, he felt his performance in a 33-14 triumph over Decatur Oct. 5 was noteworthy.

“I was playing with a high ankle sprain but still scored four rushing touchdowns,” Googer said.

As far as where he will play on the next level, Googer said he will start focusing on that after the season.
