Douglas County opened four additional advance voting sites this week as scheduled after operating a single location in Douglasville the past two weeks.

The county elections office set up polls at Deer Lick Park, Dog River Library, Boundary Waters Aquatic Center and the Old Courthouse Monday after offering a single location in the Douglas County Courthouse on Hospital Drive on weekdays between Oct. 15 and Saturday.

Elections supervisor Laurie Fulton reported 1,400 voters cast ballots on Friday and 1,110 on the special Saturday early voting day at the courthouse.

“It has been about what I expected until today,” Fulton said Friday.

Some reports had waits of about 45 minutes to vote at the courthouse.

All five early voting locations will be open today through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

No voting will be done Monday, but 25 precincts will be open for voters Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Among the races and questions on the ballot — other than the presidential race — is one asking Douglas County and Douglasville residents if they want to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

Voters statewide will be asked if they want to amend the state constitution to allow charter school organizers to appeal to a state board if denied by a local school board.

Local races include Democrat Romona Jones challenging Republican incumbent Tom Worthan for county commission chairman and Democrat Derrick Broughton challenging GOP incumbent Phil Miller for sheriff.

Legislative races on the Nov. 6 ballot include state House District 66, Republican Bob Snelling and Democrat Kim Alexander; House District 67, Republican Micah Gravley and Democrat Leigh McMutry; and Senate District 30, a special Republican primary between Bill Hembree, Glenn Richardson, Jim Naughton and Mike Dugan.
