With all precincts reporting for Brookhaven, three city council seats will go to a runoff Dec. 4, while Jim Eyre took the District 2 seat with 54.6 percent of the vote.

In District 1, Rebecca Chase Williams, who kept a lead all night, garnered 45.2 percent of the vote and will face Kevin Fitzpatrick, who had 19.4 percent of the vote, in the runoff.

Bates Mattison, with 21.2 percent of the vote, will face Kevin Quirk, who had 20.9 percent, for the runoff for the District 3 council seat.

For the District 4 seat, Joe Gebbia, 39.7 percent, will face Karen Lord, who had 34.2 percent.

The Chamblee annexation question on the ballot had three of four precincts reporting with a close vote of 50.7 percent “no” and 49.2 percent “yes.”

Due to the fact that a quorum of elected officials was not established, the Governor’s Commission on the city of Brookhaven will continue its work. In an interview conducted last week, Commission Chair Ben Vinson said in the event of a runoff election, the commission’s work would be stretched a bit longer.

However, once the final elections results are certified and the officials take office, then all work from the commission will be turned over to the new city officials to begin operations for the city of Brookhaven, which will begin formal work Dec. 17.

What's next
The Governor’s Commission on the city of Brookhaven will host a special called meeting tonight at 7 p.m. as well as a regular meeting Thursday at 8 p.m.
