North Fulton residents who are seeking out ways to help families affected by Hurricane Sandy can look no further than Alpharetta.

The North American Mission Board, based in Alpharetta, has been sending disaster relief up north to aid displaced hurricane victims.

According to Al Gilbert, who works with the organization, the facility at 4200 North Point Parkway is “operating around the clock” to provide meals and other services.

“I either have to harden my heart or cry when I watch the news and I see just how complete the devastation is in some of those places,” Gilbert said as he addressed Alpharetta’s City Council meeting Monday night.

Gilbert said the best way for north Fulton residents to help out right now is through monetary donations, which can be given on the organization’s website, www.namb.net.

Funds donated will go to putting tarps on houses, mud-out equipment, meal preparation and more.

The group has 1,550 mobile units for feeding and can provide up to 300,000 meals a day.

Gilbert said the North American Mission Board will also have opportunities for adoptions of families and churches that are in the area.

Churches and city groups can also contact the organization to discuss other ways to help out.

Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle said he is happy to “have such a great organization in our city limits.”
