Eight organizations have been awarded a combined total of $25,000 from Contracts for Cultural Services by Roswell’s Cultural Arts Board.

This is the first ever financial support program developed for Roswell nonprofit arts and cultural organizations.

Category recipients are:

Arts/Cultural Services

-Michael O’Neal Singers — $4,000

To present seven concert productions in Roswell, allowing residents to experience choral presentations of artistic excellence and programmatic variety, otherwise available only by commuting into the city of Atlanta.

-Georgia Regional Girls Choir — $2,500

To provide an educational choral experience for choir members, present a series of three concerts and expand its program to include a training choir for elementary girls in grades 3 through 5.

-Georgia Ensemble Theatre — $2,500

To produce five main stage productions at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center; to offer classes through the GET Conservatory, two sessions of Theatre Arts Day Camp, one session of Performance Camp ending with two free public performances; and to provide out-reach and in-reach programming through TYA productions.

Project Support

-Atlanta Dance Theatre — $4,000

To support development of an innovative, contemporary music and dance performance to be performed with the annual Spring Classic Ballet – “Fairytales…Then and Now” will feature multiple dance genres and bring together the talents of local/regional choreographers, live contemporary musician(s) and dance talent from ADT and the local community.

-Roswell Dance Theatre — $2,800

To support Roswell Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker Children and Youth Performance Project.

-Riverside Chamber Players —$2,000

To present two chamber music performances of the highest professional quality, while at the same time making educational, arts, and cultural enrichment easily accessible for diverse audiences in the Roswell Community.

Arts Education

-The Teaching Museum North — $3,000

To provide all 8th grade students in Roswell public schools an arts and cultural experience based on the history of Georgia through the lens of Historic Roswell. Roswell seniors will also be included in this offering.

-Hillside Elementary PTA — $4,200

To support Hillside’s Artist Day, an event where 16 artists of various disciplines share their talents with students in hands-on workshops.

The students also participate in personal art projects based on an artist from history and an assembly program.

Each student experiences different forms of art throughout the day and keeps a journal on what inspired him/her.

Other than the City of Atlanta’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Fulton County Arts Council, this is the only local government-based program for support of arts and cultural organizations in metro Atlanta.
