The light show will continue through Jan. 6.
Lights will converge on a 1.5 mile course area otherwise cluttered with zooming cars and cheering fans — more than one million LED lights and displays to be exact.
Show hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Cost of entry will be $15 per car Monday through Thursday and $20 per car Friday and Saturday.
For vans and buses, the cost is $15 per car and an additional $1 per passenger.
Marcy Scott, director of marketing and promotion for Atlanta Motor Speedway, said the light show was brought to the area through a partnership.
“Atlanta Motor Speedway partnered with Winterland, Inc. for the second year for the Gift of Lights show,” she said. “Winterland, Inc. has been involved with AMS’ parent company Speedway Motorsports, Inc. since 2011.”
In 2010, Scott said, Speedway brought the first speedway light show to Charlotte and Atlanta motor speedways.
For this year, there are new surprises in store.
“New exhibits will be Christmas in outer space and new NASCAR-themed displays,” said Scott.
According to Scott, the light show is an attraction and destination for residents for several reasons.
“It is an affordable activity for families around the holidays,” she said. “[The light show will] also bring awareness to the speedway and entertain a new clientele that has never been to the race track. While some of our customers have never been to a race, everyone loves holiday lights.”
Additionally, on Dec. 7 to 19, 14 to 16 and 21 to 23, courtesy of Food Depot, children can have their picture taken with Santa Claus. A gift shop will also be open to allow parents to holiday shop.
The first 15,000 vehicles to Gift of Lights will receive a gift bag with coupons and special savings from the light show’s various sponsors.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is at 1500 Tara Place in Hampton.
