According to a report by transportation and recreation committee chairman Jim Henson to the council, the committee met to discuss offering different things that will boost participation at Sara Babb Park and the Dallas Theater.
“One of the ways we’re looking to address this is by using the theater as a way of bringing more people in,” said Henson, citing offering free movies at certain times of the year as an example.
A free “Christmas Movie Extravaganza” featuring three holiday-themed movies, is scheduled for Dec. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. at the theater.
Another possibility would be offering more local productions, increasing the number by more than the current average of two per year, he said.
The committee also talked about setting up a series of shows much like the Fox Theater in Atlanta, which offers Theater of the Stars, as well as bringing in a well-known performer to the city.
Henson also said the city would also like to attract major restaurants to come into the area, as a way of generating more business into the town.
In other business, the council voted to approve the purchase of a 2013 Ford F150 four-wheel-drive for Public Works at $19,216, and to expend $8,945 for water tank repairs.
The council also approved appointing City Council Ward 1 member Chris Carter as city of Dallas representative on the Paulding Chamber of Commerce board for 2013.
