“They do a lot of team bonding there and community work,” Turner said. “Everyone in the sports community is close and I really love that. When I left there, I pretty much knew I was going to commit because of the feeling I had when I was there.”
The 5-foot-9 forward, who averaged 17 points and five rebounds last season, was also considering Alcorn State and Tennessee-Chattanooga.
“Whatever they need me to do I just plan on doing it,” Turner said. “I just want to be a benefit to the program my first year.”
“She is big on the boards and will get you points in the paint,” said Riverdale boys’ basketball coach Tony Brinson, who coached the girls last season.
Alongside Toni Thomas and Keimairra Haylock, Turner will try to lead the Lady Raiders back to the playoffs after a two-year absence.
“We look forward to an up-tempo game,” said new girls’ basketball coach Jacquesa Smith.
Turner, who plays for the Georgia Pearls AAU team, plans to major in biology and become a physical therapist.
