As the day that Saint Nick slides down chimney’s worldwide inches closer, so do the many Christmas activities in Henry County.

The city of McDonough especially has a full slew of holiday events for residents of all ages to enjoy, the vast majority of the events occurring on Saturday.

The Neighbor has compiled some of these events below:

Jingle Jog

Henry County’s Rotary Club will present their annual Jingle Jog 5K and 1-mile run and walk on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. The race will begin on the McDonough Square. Registration for the 5K race is $25 before the race and $30 on race day. For the 1-mile fun run and walk, pre-registration is $15 and $20 the day of the race. An elf trot for children six and under will also be held. Online registration will close Friday at 6 p.m. The first 500 registrants will receive a Santa hat and jingle bells to wear in the race. All participants that finish the 1-mile fun run and walk will receive a candy cane. Fruit and water will be provided to all participants.

Christmas tree lighting

Featuring a dazzling display of lights, the Christmas tree lighting follows the Jingle Jog on the Square. The tree lighting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last for half an hour.

Christmas parade

The city of McDonough’s annual Christmas parade will kick off on the square promptly at 6 p.m., following the tree lighting. Residents can expect to get a glimpse of Santa, his helpers and city official. The theme of this year’s parade is “The Magic of Christmas.” A total of 80 participants are slated for inclusion within the parade.

Santa Saturdays

Saturday will jumpstart McDonough’s weekend visits with Santa on the square. On Saturday, Dec. 8 and 15, children will have the opportunity to meet and greet with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
