Shea Kelly, whose home will be featured on this year's Decatur Holiday Candlelight Tour of Homes, says shes receives many compliments on the large mirror in her living room.
“With it being the 30th anniversary, we really just wanted to focus on celebrating 30 years of living in Decatur,” said Katie Abel, special events coordinator for the city of Decatur. “We wanted to highlight different neighborhoods and different styles of homes.”
Luminaries will light up the designated stops as tour-goers check out the holiday décor at 218 Clarion Ave., 223 E. Davis St., 424 Drexel Ave., 507 Drexel Ave., 408 Glendale Ave., 620 Pinetree Dr. and 860 Sycamore Dr.
“We have a few small bungalows all the way up to the beautiful RoseHill estate that sits right on the hill on Pinetree in front of St. Thomas More Church,” Abel said.
Shea Kelly, of 507 Drexel Ave., is a residential and commercial designer who plans on incorporating homemade projects into her décor.
“I’m going to be making a gold and silver Christmas ball chandelier … [to hang] over the dining room table,” she said. “There’s going to be lots of wreaths and Christmas trees. I’m making glass-lit bottles to place all over on side tables that will light up.”
Terry Lockman, of 223 E. Davis St., will stick with a traditional mix of wreaths, greenery, candles and nativities that have been collected throughout the years.
“Our growing family of grandchildren meant I had to find a new place for hanging Christmas stockings, other than the mantle, and I found the front staircase railing to be the perfect spot for hanging seven Christmas stockings,” Lockman said.
Along with visiting the homes, Abel said community members are also invited to tour the newly remodeled Courtyard by Marriott on Clairemont Avenue, where they can park and take complimentary shuttle buses to each home. Participants can purchase tickets for the event at the hotel.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and are valid for both nights of the tour. Advance tickets are available at The 17 Steps at 235-M Ponce de Leon Place, Intown Ace Hardware at 1404 Scott Blvd. and Oakhurst Market at 650 East Lake Dr.
