Brookhaven residents will once again have a chance to vote on a new mayor and three city councilmembers for the newly-created municipality Tuesday.

In the mayoral race, J. Max Davis, who garnered 48.6 percent of the vote in the Nov. 6 special election, will face off against opponent Sandy Murray, who received 35.9 percent.

Both have been campaigning fervently since the special election earlier this month. For the special election, both candidates held several community meetings and went door-to-door to campaign in their respective neighborhoods — a feat they agreed on continuing for the runoff election.

In regards to the city council races, with Jim Eyre winning the District 2 race, only Districts 1, 3 and 4 are up for grabs Tuesday. With District 1 Rebecca Chase Williams, who received 45.2 percent of the vote Nov. 6, will face opponent Kevin Fitzpatrick, who had 19.4 percent of the vote.

Bates Mattison, who received 21.2 percent of the vote, will face Kevin Quirk, who had 20.9 percent, for the District 3 council seat.

For the District 4 seat, Joe Gebbia, who had 39.7 percent, will face Karen Lord, who garnered 34.2 percent.

Early voting for the runoff elections will be through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections Office, 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, in Decatur. The elections office is accepting absentee ballots until Tuesday at 7 p.m. All other voters must vote at their assigned precincts Tuesday.
