For the last two years Blessed Trinity quarterback Spencer McManes was both a leader in the huddle and the Titans’ primary offensive play-maker behind center.

So it should come as no surprise that those seasons were two for the record books at BT, matching a school record for wins last year with seven then setting a new Titan mark this fall with a 9-3 campaign.

“He [was] just a great leader for us,” said second-year Blessed Trinity coach Tim McFarlin of McManes, who is receiving recruiting interest from Furman, Elon, William and Mary and others.

“He is a guy that [brought] great leadership and a guy that the other kids really respected in that huddle.

“In our offense his job [was] to get the ball to the right spot so others could make plays. Then when it was critical, make big plays himself.”

McManes put that big play ability on display in the Titans’ 35-14 playoff win over White County Nov. 16.

In one of the best games of his career, the senior completed 11-of-13 passes for 256 yards (a 23.3 yard average) and two touchdown passes to Nathaniel Maggio. On the ground he was just as effective, leading the team with 62 yards rushing and a touchdown on seven carries.
