Last year Roswell High exceeded its fundraising goal of $10,000, and this year, after two weeks of collecting donations, the school has exceeded the 2012 goal of $20,000 by raising more than $25,000.
Roswell High is the No. 1 ranked high school in Georgia for raising the most funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In order to raise the $25,000 in 14 days, the honor society set up several ways for residents to donate.
The club collected donations in the students’ first-period classes and online through a donation website. Businesses Moe’s, Your Pie and Orange Leaf partnered with the high school for event nights each week and donated a percentage of the proceeds to the fundraiser.
Local Roswell businesses helped out by giving flat donations.
Also, before school and during lunch periods, honor society members sold Chick-fil-A and doughnuts to raise funds.
The honor society set up a system of incentives to make students donate for the cause and make the fundraiser a collective school event.
After raising $5,000, curly headed senior football player Grant Beidel had to shave his hair off, which was aired on the school’s Friday news show “The Morning Buzz.”
The remaining four incentives will take place during the next few weeks at the school since the goal was surpassed.
For meeting the $15,000 mark, school administrators will dress up as characters from The Avengers.
The biggest incentive for exceeding the goal of $20,000 is the Roswell High School Hunger Games, which will take place in the spring, complete with a school-wide reaping and obstacle-course styles of competition.
