Scott’s wife, Mary Jane Scott, posted on Facebook that she was with him in his last moments.
“My sweet bear, my best friend, Mike, was called home to be with the Lord around 10:30pm tonight,” she posted on the Prayers for Michael Scott Facebook page. “I had the honor of holding his hand and telling him that I loved him as he drew his last breath on Earth. Rest in the peace of Jesus, my darling, until we see each other again.......”
In addition to acting as the Milton Eagle’s offensive line coach, Scott taught weightlifting and health.
Scott was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that started in the pancreatic biliary duct earlier this fall. With that diagnosis, the Milton High School community and the community at large has made an effort to encourage and raise funds for the family.
An online fundraiser at GiveForward.com has raise more than $54,000, and organizers have indicated a $100,000 goal to support Scott’s wife and two young children after his passing.
“Please join us in lifting up this family to help cover any outstanding medical expenses as well as and everyday expenses so Mary Jane is able to focus on healing and on her sweet children,” the fundraising website reads. “Please continue to pray for peace and understanding during this very difficult time for the family.”
According to the Prayers for Michael Scott Facebook page, visitation will be at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday at First Baptist Church of Woodstock. The service will begin at 1 p.m. and the procession will go to the gravesite in Rome after the service.
