The play is set for the Dallas Theater on Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“Everbody will enjoy this show, young and old,” said Renee Davis, founding partner of Playright Productions.
Davis, along with Doug Allen and Barry Piacente, founded Playright seven years ago so that actors and muscians could show off their talents with a focus on God, Davis said.
“We love Dallas, and the Dallas Theater,” Allen said.
The Playright cast has produced shows in Dallas for years, said Davis. She said she believes those that have seen their shows will recognize the actors.
“We have the same cast [in all shows] except for one man,” said Davis.
Sanders Family Christmas focuses on the fictional Sanders family going to the Christmas Eve service at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, she said. The show is set in December 1941, 18 days after Pearl Harbor was attacked, and the Sanders are dealing with the turmoil of one of their own going off to war.
“There is a blossoming love story between two characters,” said Davis.
All of these events are going on while Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe tries to keep the church together, she said. The play will draw the audience in with scenes that will make them laugh and scenes that will make them cry, she said
“It is one of those shows people go to see over and over again,” said Davis
This seems true as the group only performs the same four shows every year: “Smoke On the Mountain,” “Sanders Family Christmas,” “Forever Plaid” and “Cotton Patch Gospel,” she said.
“We believe that people want to see good, clean entertainment,” said Allen.
“Sanders Family Christmas” is the sequel to “Smoke On the Mountain.” Both shows feature bluegrass style gospel music, and are among the top produced shows in America, said Davis.
“‘Sanders Family Christmas’ really brings in the Christmas spirit,” said Allen.
The all-Christian cast has 18 members, and they perform 70 shows a year while maintaining full-time jobs, said Davis.
Tickets are $25 for main level seats ($20 discounted) and $18 for balcony seats ($15 discounted). Discounts are offered for seniors that are 62 or older, students, children, military personnel and groups of 10 or more.
