Druid Hills' DeShon Burgess
Druid Hills’ DeShon Burgess is doing just about everything imaginable in living up to his role as a standout student-athlete.

The senior guard has delivered solid production for the Red Devils this season, as his stat line will attest. Burgess was averaging 16 points, four assists and three rebounds per contest through the team’s first seven games.

“He takes the ball to the basket quite well — he’s got a real nice crossover that allows him to do that,” said Druid Hills coach Jerome Lee. “Plus, he shoots the ball well using his full extension, which kind of makes it hard to block his shot.”

Add a diligent work ethic and leadership to the collection of intangibles Burgess brings to the table as well.

“He’s worked on his strength in particular,” Lee said. “He’s a lot stronger than he used to be.

“And, he’s learned to be a good leader. I think the fact that he shows he cares a lot about the team goes a long way … he takes a lot of guys home.”

If the aforementioned list of qualities is not enough, consider the fact that Burgess also maintains other responsibilities.

Said Lee: “His grades are pretty good … and he actually has a job, which I think shows some real good character.”
