The senior running back/linebacker returned from a leg injury to lead Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy to the GHSA Class-A private football championship, Henry’s first in any classification.
Green rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns and added a sack on defense to cap off one of the more impressive prep football careers in the Peach State.
It’s only apropos that Chargers coach Jonathan Gess spoke of his star player in a historical context, afterward.
“He’s unbelievable,” said Gess. “I think he’s one of the best all-around football players to ever play in the state of Georgia.”
Any potential naysayer might want to check Green’s career stat line: 5,000 yards rushing and 400 tackles.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever coach a kid who’s as dominant on both sides of the ball.”
Green’s departure is bittersweet for the Chargers faithful. While he’ll never suit up for ELCA again, they can catch him on Saturdays as a member of the Purdue Boilermakers starting next fall.
