Mariah Wilson provides a strong presence in the middle for North Atlanta’s girls’ basketball team.

The 6-foot-2 senior center gives the Warriors both scoring and rebounding in the pivot, averaging 10 points and 14 rebounds a game.

She also brings considerable defensive skills under the basket, leading the team with six blocked shots per contest.

Wilson came through with her best performance of the season in North Atlanta’s 51-36 victory over cross-town rival Grady Dec. 8. She scored 13 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked eight shots — all season highs.

According to coach Kerry Sarden, Wilson lets her game do the talking for her.

“Mariah is a quiet person — doesn’t do a lot of talking,” Sarden said. “She can score, rebound, block shots. She is a strong defensive player.”

Wilson, who plays AAU basketball for the Georgia Pearls, has attracted attention from Division I colleges such as South Florida, Brown and Dartmouth.

She is also successful in the classroom with a 3.8 grade point average.
