The Douglas County girls’ basketball team started off the season with back-to-back losses, but recovered with a six-game win streak to wrap up the games prior to the Pickens County Classic over the holiday break.

With the success the team has seen, head coach Chet Forsh named one player, Santasia Faust, as its point player — making a big impact and contributing greatly to each win.

“She had a great game in spite of an injury to her index finger on her shooting hand,” said Forsh.

The 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard has been an impact player for the Lady Tigers since playing on varsity last year. “Faust is currently the team’s top scorer as she has scored in double digits in several games,” said Forsh.

Faust currently averages 10 points per game, three and a half steals and three assists. In the team’s first win of the season against Westminster, Faust scored 14 points, three rebounds and seven steals. In the victory over Chapel Hill Faust racked up 23 points, six steals and was 11-15 from the free-throw line.

As a freshman for Douglas County, Faust lead the varsity team in steals last year and is currently the team’s top defender this year, always being placed on the toughest player from the opposing team.

“She is a very intense player, especially on defense,” said Forsh.

Despite her intense personality on the court, Forsh said Faust is a “typical sophomore.” “[She is] a little immature at times, but generally a happy-go-lucky type,” Forsh said.
