“The opening of this section of Haynes Bridge Road marks the first major milestone in the development of our City Center Project,” said Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle. “This section of the road had to be relocated to unify the 22-acre site and to allow construction of the new library.”
The City donated land to Fulton County on which a new 25,000 square foot public library will be located. The original path of Haynes Bridge Road ran through the middle of that land.
Delays in the relocation of utility lines along the road set the project back by four months. As a result, the City was forced to alter its construction plans and close the section of Haynes Bridge Road back in October. The move was necessary in order to have the road open by year-end; keeping a promise the City had made to Fulton County.
“We promised Fulton County that the road would be open by the end of the year so they could start work on the new library,” explained Belle Isle. “Issues beyond our ability to control made it difficult, but we live up to our word.”
