The list of teams, which was announced on Christmas Day, included seven north Fulton players with five of those seven being named first-team all-state for their respective classifications.
Following a 7-4 season and a second straight appearance in the GHSA state playoffs, Milton led all local schools with three All-State honorees in Class AAAAAA — Carl Lawson, Josh Harris and Peyton Barber.
Lawson, a 6-foot-3 250 pound defensive end that is committed to playing at the University of Auburn, was named to the first-team defense after a standout season saw him become arguably the best pass rusher in the state and possibly the country.
Ranked as the No. 2 collegiate recruit in the country by Rivals.com, Lawson tallied 24.5 sacks during his senior season, another 11.5 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles.
He was named 5AAAAAA’s defensive player of the year along with north Fulton defensive player of the year by the Neighbor.
On the opposite side of the line, Harris earned first-team honors on the offensive line. The 6-foot-4 300 pound senior was a key cog in a line that established itself as one of the biggest and best in the state, paving the way for an Eagle offense that set a school record for points per game (37.4) and averaged an astonishing 6.0 yards per carry in the rushing game.
Harris, a first-team all 5AAAAAA and first-team all Neighbor selection as well, will play for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons next fall.
Among the backs Harris paved the way for was Barber, a senior that ran for a north Fulton leading 1,713 yards and pounded in 22 touchdowns on the ground. Barber, an honorable mention all-state pick by the GSWA, was also selected to 5AAAAAA’s and the Neighbor’s first-team lists. The senior back will tote the ball at Ole Miss next fall.
With first-team selection on offense and defense, Johns Creek senior Kyle Fowler rounded out the first-team AAAAAA honorees by being named as a kicker.
This season Fowler was a key weapon in the Gladiator’s high scoring offense, giving them a chance to score every time they crossed the 30-yardline. The senior went 8-for-11 on field goals, including kicks of 45, 47, 48 and 49 yards, hit all but one extra point and put 97 percent of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
At the quarterback position, highly touted Alpharetta signal-caller Joshua Dobbs was named second-team all AAAAAA after throwing for over 3,000 yards for a second straight season.
Dobbs, who helped Alpharetta to a 7-4 mark and third straight trip to state, led all of Class-AAAAAA in passing with 3,625 yards through the air and only trailed All-Class Player of the Year Deshun Watson of Gainesville (4,011 yards) for the top mark in Georgia.
Dobbs, who was also named 6AAAAAA offensive player of the year and the Neighbor’s Offensive Player of the Year, threw for 29 touchdowns this year while also leading Alpharetta in rushing yards (419) and rushing touchdowns (11).
Dobbs is committed to playing at Arizona State University next season.
Following a second straight trip to the second-round of the state playoffs, Blessed Trinity was represented on the AAA All-State list by first-team selection Myles Kinder on the defensive line.
In 2012 Kinder was the centerpiece of a stingy Titans’ defense that never allowed more that 24 points in a game and made for tough sledding on opponents trying to move the ball on the ground. Kinder, a first-team all 6AAA and all-Neighbor selection, finished the season with 49.5 tackles (20 solo), eight sacks, 13 quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles from his defensive tackle position.
Ryan Felice, a senior captain at Mount Pisgah, was the lone north Fulton representative on the Class-A All-State team, being honored as a first-team defensive back.
Felice, a 6-foot-1 190 pound safety, helped lead the Patriots to their first GHSA state playoff trip in school history.
He finished the season with 97 tackles, including eight for a loss, and four interceptions.
