Zana Gray of Douglasville donates blood Dec. 27 at the ‘Badges of Life’ blood drive at the Douglas County Courthouse. A regular donor, she has donated 10 to 12 times. Having Type O negative blood, her particular type is particularly in demand. She said she received 11 cards in 30 days from the Red Cross, asking her to donate blood, and joked, ‘I thought Dracula was after me.’

The annual Badges of Life Blood Drive recently encouraged Douglas County residents to donate blood in honor of the local public safety department of their choice. A chart is kept of how many pints of blood are donated for each in this friendly competition at the Douglas County Courthouse, with the ‘winning’ department receiving an award from the American Red Cross.
