Cristi Holcombe wears several hats, owning her own interior design business, taking care of her 19-month-old son and filming the HGTV show “Elbow Room.”

The Sandy Springs resident received a call to audition for the show a day after giving birth to her son Chase in May 2011. She auditioned for the show two weeks later and was working on renovations for the show three weeks after having him.

“It was the only call she answered in the hospital,” said Holcombe’s husband Billy.

The first show aired in May 2012, and Holcombe is currently filming the second season now, which will air in April.

Holcombe said each project for the show takes about four weeks from start to finish. The show’s clients normally have a small room to work with and don’t have their own sense of style, according to the designer. Holcombe said the crew is usually working on anywhere from two to four houses at one time.

They started filming the second season in October.

She and the “Elbow Room” crew will begin working on a Sandy Springs home off Johnson Ferry Road at the end of this month.

The designer said one day during the week before Christmas, she started work at 7:30 a.m. and did not get home until 3:30 a.m. the next day.

“It’s helped my business tremendously. As soon as people hear I’ve been on HGTV, … it gives me instant credibility,” she said. “It’s also increased my contact base for my own business.”

Holcombe started her business, Charm Home Design, in 2009, after working for Beazer Homes and Lodgian, Inc., a hotel company.

As a marketing tool, the young designer started a blog, which won an award and now has 10,000 readers each month.

In late November, Holcombe also opened a booth in the Queen of Hearts Antique Mall in Marietta.

“That’s kind of like my entry into maybe opening up a furniture store one day,” she said.

Holcombe has lived in Sandy Springs since 2005 and plans to stay.

“We knew we wanted to raise our son here. We just love Sandy Springs and the great family values here,” she said.
