He is the second member of the five-person board to quit this month. William Riley, one of the Fulton County Republican Party’s two appointees, last week told the organization he was leaving the board, said county spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez. Two other board members are appointed by the Fulton County Democratic Party.
Edmond, the sole board member appointed by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, submitted his resignation to commission chair John H. Eaves, and his resignation takes effect upon designation of a replacement.
“I am grateful for Dr. Edmond’s leadership and service to the citizens of Fulton County. I know that he will continue to make positive contributions in our community,” Eaves said. “A change in leadership at this time presents an opportunity to make a fresh start as we continue to address challenges in our registration and elections department. We will immediately begin working to identify a replacement.”
Corbitt-Dominguez said a replacement for Edmund has not been identified yet. The earliest the board could select one would be its next meeting Jan. 23, she said.
A message left at a home phone number listed for Edmund was not returned late Friday afternoon.
