To be honored by an organization or group for which an individual works is usually a great honor.

However, the feeling of accomplishment is enhanced if the individual receiving the honor was not only nominated by his supervisor but represented the first person ever to receive that award.

All those “firsts” were experienced by Kaycia Rhone, executive assistant to Lovejoy Mayor Bobby Cartwright, as she was named the city’s first employee of the year at the final meeting of 2012 of the Lovejoy City Council last month.

Rhone, former assistant coordinator of the Lovejoy Community Center, said she was “honored and, at the same time, humbled by the award.”

“The real honor for me comes from working alongside my co-workers and assisting our residents in solving issues or problems they may have that we can help them with and, hopefully, add to their quality of life,” she said.

“I can honestly say this is a dream job because of our residents, who we all work for, from Mayor Cartwright on down, are the best,” she added.

Saying she was thrilled to be selected by Cartwright as his executive assistant shortly after he was elected mayor last March, Rhone said the mayor’s laid-back approach to his position, especially with his signature mustache and casual dress on non-council meeting days, should not be confused with his approach to city government.

“Mayor Cartwright may be laid back, but he is all business when it comes to Lovejoy,” Rhone said.

“For Mayor Cartwright, when he wants something done, his philosophy is business first and making sure Lovejoy residents are taken care of.”

Although interacting with Lovejoy residents is, by far, the best part of her job, Rhone said there is never a dull moment at city hall.

“The mayor is always interacting with Clayton County officials and our own residents, which makes this job challenging but, at the same time, interesting,” she said.

Stating she was single, “but looking,” Rhone said doesn’t have a great deal of time for social activities.

“Right now, my boyfriend is the city of Lovejoy and its residents,” she said, a smile crossing her face.

Rhone is looking forward to growing with the city and witnessing some of the great ideas the mayor and council have for the city come to fruition.

“To see something the mayor and council have worked for so that it contributes to the quality of life for our residents is exciting,” she said.
