The boys’ basketball team at Hiram has been performing well with their new head coach, Darius Hodge, and had a record of 13-7 last week.

A key to the team’s success stands 6-foot-4 and has been dressing for the Hornets varsity basketball program since his freshman year.

Senior Isaac Williams is a shooting guard and small forward for the team this season.

Williams is currently leading the team in scoring, averaging 19.7 points a game, and leading the team in rebounding with an average of 7.6 a game.

“During the course of his career he is over 1,000 points,” said Hodge.

He described Williams as a versatile, athletic player who can shoot well and has a good free throw percentage. This season, Williams has had three great games – against Rome Nov. 30, Woodland Dec. 7 and LaGrange Dec. 15.

Against Rome Williams put up 29 points, had six rebounds and three steals. Against Woodland he had 29 points and seven rebounds. His best game came against LaGrange with a double-double, getting 30 points and 10 rebounds, along with two assists.

Hodge said Williams does not boast and brag about his talents, but simply shows up, works hard and shows the rest of the team how it’s done.

“He’s been a good leader for us…He’s well respected and well liked,” he said.

As a senior Williams is looking to play ball at the college level and has some interest from schools in and out of state, but has yet to lock anything down.
