The senior is the lone Spartan to qualify for individual boys’ events in Class A-AAAAA at this weekend’s GHSA state meet at Georgia Tech.
Berry is competing in the 100-yard butterfly — which he qualified for with a time of 53.42 seconds — and the 100 backstroke (54.83). He will also be a part of the North Springs’ boys’ 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
He also posted state qualifying times in the 200 individual medley (2:06) and the 100 freestyle (50.03), but will not be taking part in those events since swimmers are limited to two individual events and two relays.
It has been a successful senior season for Berry, who set new school records in the 100 freestyle (50.03) and 100 backstroke (54.83).
“Scott has worked very hard throughout his high school career to get where he is today,” North Springs coach Julie Ferris said. “He set high goals for himself as a freshman and he kept his eyes on those goals throughout. The other swimmers look up to Scott and I think he motivates them to work hard and swim fast. I am excited to see how he does at the state meet.”
