Though the association has participated in the local art appreciation month since the city’s incorporation, this year is unique in that the group will end the month celebrating the opening of the new Dunwoody Fine Art Association Pop Up Gallery.
“We’re having a grand finale to Dunwoody Fine Art Month, because it coincides with the opening of the gallery,” said Susan Proctor, association president.
The group will host a reception Feb. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. The gallery, located in the courtyard of Dunwoody Village Shopping Center behind Fresh Market on Chamblee Dunwoody Road, will officially open Feb. 25.
A portion of the proceeds from the gallery’s sales will go to support the art programs at Chestnut and Kingsley elementary schools, Proctor said. The gallery will feature a diverse range of artwork, including watercolors, acrylics, oil paintings, digital photography, jewelry and more, she added.
One of the artists who will have work on display at the gallery is association member Julie Marshall. This month, she has acrylic paintings featuring wine bottles and wine glasses hanging up at d’Vine Wine Bar and Shop on Chamblee Dunwoody Road as part of Dunwoody Fine Art Month.
“I’m really excited to have a place … that we can put our artwork out there in our own community,” she said.
Marshall hopes the pieces residents and visitors will see throughout the city this month and at the new gallery will cultivate a stronger appreciation of local art and the artists that create them.
“We’re hoping that people will … realize that there are Dunwoody artists and that they’re good artists and enjoy the work,” she said.
The participating businesses have signs to hang in their windows announcing which artists have their works on display. Proctor said the artwork not only enhances the walls of local businesses, but will hopefully serve to attract new members to the art association.
