DeAngelo Anthony’s final season as a Lovejoy basketball player began in exciting fashion and is on a similar path as the postseason approaches.

After missing the Wildcats’ season opener due to injury, Anthony scored 29 points, including the game-winning bucket, in his debut against McIntosh on Nov. 19.

“I just like to score and the feeling of winning,” said Anthony after being asked what he likes most about the sport. “When we play basketball, I just feel like that is what I was made to do.”

Now in the Wildcats’ last eight games (the first seven were all wins), the shooting guard has been consistently big in the scoring department.

“We’ve just been playing as a team actually and when somebody gets hot we just find the hot person and just roll with it,” Anthony said.

“With him playing the way he’s been playing, it makes everything a whole lot smoother,” Lovejoy boys’ coach Rick Francis said.

Anthony’s success has also been a product of point guard Mike Harden’s effectiveness.

“With him and DeAngelo back there, it just really makes it hard for the defensive team,” Francis said.

On Wednesday, the 16-8 Wildcats face Druid Hills at Luella in the opening round of the Region 2-AAAAAA tournament.
