Paulding Education Foundation plans to collaborate with the Paulding County School District and add a luncheon and a fundraiser to the annual Teacher of the Year award ceremony.

The celebration is set for May 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Paulding Jet Center located at Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport.

The foundation will host a luncheon celebration for the teachers of the year from the district’s 34 schools, and the district’s Teacher of the Year award will be presented as part of the luncheon, said Clark Maggart, executive director of human resources for the district

In the past the district has hosted a reception to honor the teachers, but the foundation is taking it to the next level by making it a fundraising event as well.

“We are expecting to raise $10,000 profit to give back to the district,” Mollohan said.

This will let businesses recognize teachers and help fund the district, which directly affects the students, Maggart said. Business can recognize the teachers by donating to the event, or by donating items for the teachers, Mollohan said.

“The beauty of the idea is it fulfills two purposes,” Maggart said.

Members First Credit Union will be the presenting sponsor for the event with a $5,000 donation. The credit union has served the school district since 1970 by being a Partners in Education participant, donating to the district, mentoring and helping with a variety of other programs throughout the years, said Jennifer Walters, business development officer for the credit union.

“We appreciate the work our educators do every day,” Walters said.

Little Caesar’s will sponsor the entertainment for the event, which will be a video of all of the teachers being interviewed, Mollohan said.

Teachers can be nominated by a parent, student, teacher or administrator for the individual school awards, according to the nomination form. Once the schools have chosen their teacher, they are automatically in the running for the district’s award.

Also to be given at the event will be the district’s Employee of the Year awards, Maggart said. There are seven categories so each type of staff member can be recognized. The categories are school nutrition; maintenance, operations and facilities; custodial services; school support services; school instructional support; district office support; transportation; and leadership. Each of the winners of these awards will be invited to the luncheon as well.

Selection of the award winners will be handled by the district’s human resources department.

The foundation is a nonprofit which raises funds for scholarships and grants for the district, said Executive Director Amy Mollohan.

“Our goal is to support the district financially,” she said.
