Westminster has earned a spot among the 32 teams in Class AA in the GHSA state boys’ basketball tournament, which gets under way this week.

A number of local Class A teams will find out about their postseason fate when the classification’s final power ranking of the season is released Wednesday, with the top 16 teams earning positions.

Weber has also secured a state bid as it qualified in Class AAA in the GISA tournament.

Westminster (15-12) enters the AA tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing third in the Region 6AA tournament last week.

The Wildcats will go on the road to play Model — the second seed from 7AA — in a first-round game Wednesday. The winner will take on either Jefferson, the top seed from 8AA, or Kendrick, the fourth team from 5AA, Saturday.

In the 6AA tournament, Westminster lost to Wesleyan 52-49 in the semifinals last Wednesday, before bouncing back to beat Hapeville 62-58 in overtime in the consolation game last Friday.

In Class A, Holy Innocents’ (18-7) was ranked seventh in the previous week’s power ranking, while Mount Vernon Presbyterian (16-11) was 15th and Pace (15-11) 16th.

In the Region 5A tournament, Pace defeated Strong Rock Christian 89-44 in the first round last Monday, then beat Holy Innocents’ 80-63 in the quarterfinals last Wednesday, before losing to Greenforest Christian 50-35 in the semifinals last Friday.

Mount Vernon opened the 5A tournament with a 76-24 first-round win over Atlanta International last Monday, but lost to Landmark Christian 49-46 in the quarterfinals last Wednesday.

In the GISA Class AAA tournament, Weber (14-8) — the fourth seed from 1AAA — will play Deerfield-Windsor — the top seed from 3AAA — in a first-round game at Tattnall Square in Macon Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The winner will face either Tattnall Square, the second seed from 2AAA, or Bethesda the third team from 4AAA.

In AAA, Woodward (24-5) won the 6AAA tournament and will host Dawson County, while 6AAA runner-up St. Pius X (20-8) hosts East Hall and Blessed Trinity (15-11) — the third seed from 6AAA — plays at Dawson County. All three games are on Wednesday.
