The Rotary Club of Douglas County has supported and recognized the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program for many years, according to Rotary President Lisa Doney.
The club hosted a luncheon last week for the top SAT-scoring students in Douglas County and their selected teachers who have been most instrumental in their success, along with family and school administrators.
Douglas County High School senior Devin Johnston, who received a 2310 out of a possible 2400 SAT score, was named the county’s overall STAR student.
He is the son of Barry and Laura Johnston of Villa Rica.
Johnston selected International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher Vickie Burnett as his STAR teacher.
When asked what one word she would use to describe Johnston, Burnett responded “tenacious.”
“Devin is an unusual young man. He’s not only smart, but he is a great athlete. He plays golf and runs cross country, and is unwaveringly loyal to his friends and family,” Burnett said.
Douglas County High School has produced the county’s overall STAR student for six consecutive years.
Other STAR students included:
• Alexander High School, Jessie Vaughn, daughter of Donald and Marcia Vaughn, of Villa Rica. Her STAR teacher is Kim Laver.
• Chapel Hill High School, Ashfra Patel, son of Ateeq and Noor Patel, of Douglasville. His STAR teacher is Kristen Johnson.
