Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini on hot seat for annual roast
This year’s “roastee” will be Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini who said he is ready to take his place on the hot seat.
“I am not nervous at all about what will be said about me,” Santini said. “Make no mistake. I know that I am going to get it good. There will be a lot of one-liners thrown at me. Some of them will be true and some of them won’t.”
The dais, emceed by Weldon Dudley, will feature local dignitaries as well as close acquaintances that have a good-natured ax to grind.
“I have selected a group of people who know me well and will have a lot of material on me,” Santini said. “That’s what it takes to have a successful roast. Anyone who comes will not only get a great meal, but they will also be entertained. I’m really looking forward to it, and, don’t forget, I will get the last word on all of them when they are done.”
Tickets for the event are $35 and include a steak or chicken dinner prepared by Dot Beavers and family.
All proceeds benefit the New Frontier core programs, aimed squarely at serving the many citizens of Bartow County.
All of the proceeds go towards the core programs of the organization, namely scholarships, food baskets, the “Feed the Community Dinner” and other benevolent programs that improve Bartow County as a whole.
New Frontier member Bryan Canty said the roast is a good opportunity for the community to revel in the fun.
Canty said, “How many opportunities does one get to poke fun at authority figures in a public forum? Plus, you never know what tidbits of information may be revealed during the course of the evening. Not only that, but watching the delivery of some of the roasters on the dais can be hilarious.”
Even though Santini is will be in the line of fire Canty said the roast provide the perfect opportunity to honor Santini.
“Everyone knows that the roasters have nothing but the utmost respect for the honoree,” Canty said. “The true testament is from those who attend.”
