As a junior at Ridgeview last year, Martin won state titles in the 100 and 200-meter dash, and helped the 4-x-400 relay team capture gold.
Now, Martin is set on accomplishing the same things here and helping the girls’ team win its first state title since 2009.
“More than anything else I need to be focused, be healthy and humble about everything because just like God gave it to me he can take it away just like that,” Martin said.
“She is a big plus,” Westlake girls’ track and field coach Jason Cage said. “We are really blessed to have her. She is the type of person who can put the team on her back and help the girls win another state title.”
After her brief stint of donning a Westlake jersey, Martin will turn her attention to Auburn University, where she will continue to compete while pursuing a career as a teacher.
“The SEC is really loaded,” Cage said. “I know that SheKara can compete with those girls and I believe she will make some noise in the SEC.”
"Running in the SEC will be a mindblower," Martin said.
