Riverwood’s Andrew Fisher is off to a scorching start on the baseball diamond.

The senior third baseman, a three-year starter, was leading the team in hitting with a .529 batting average as of last Friday.

He has stepped up his game another notch in recent contests, going 8-for-12 at the plate over the past week.

Fisher’s hitting prowess, along with his strong glove in the field, has helped lead the Raiders to a 5-2 record going into last Friday’s game against crosstown rival North Springs.

Riverwood coach Mike Santoro acknowledges Fisher’s key role in the Raiders’ success.

“Andrew is one of those kids on the field and in the classroom that’s just really, really good at everything he does,” Santoro said. “He’s a solid young man. He’s an excellent student and on the baseball field, you can guarantee that he’s always going to be in the right place.

“He is self-aware of what his ability level is, in that he doesn’t try to go up there and hit home runs or do something other that what is needed for the team. He really has a good understanding of the game. He’s worked very, very hard and it’s absolutely paid off for him.”
