“Rusty Grant has been hired as Roswell’s police chief,” Community Relations Manager Julie Brechbill said. The appointment was official Tuesday morning.
James Russell “Rusty” Grant was the Special agent in charge of the regional drug dffice in Canton for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation before he signed on to Roswell as deputy chief in October.
He became the interim chief after former chief Dwayne Orrick resigned last November.
“From being our deputy chief to interim chief, he’s done a fantastic job,” said Councilwoman Becky Wynn, council liaison to the city’s public safety committe.
“He really stepped up to the plate. He carried the load of being interim with dignity and honor, and I’m sure he’ll do the same as our chief.”
The city received 40 applications for the chief’s position, Brechbill said.
Grant has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience with particular expertise in investigating violent crime, property crime, drug enforcement and technology.
His salary as chief is $105,000.
