New owners have taken over at Farmhouse in the City, an art and play studio in Roswell, and they plan to expand the services offered for area children.

Former owner Robin Donovan, who also owns the art studio Cork and Canvas in Roswell, handed over the reins to new owners Jennifer Brown and Renee Egan in late February. Since then, the duo has been working on revamping the studio and dreaming up new programs and activities.

Egan, of Roswell, said Farmhouse in the City will continue to host birthday parties and summer camp sessions but will add more times for Paint and Play and will launch specialty classes in the fall.

“We’re going to be open seven days a week as opposed to just being open three days a week,” Egan said.

Baby Yoga and Mini Michelangelo classes are some of the new programs she would like to introduce.

Brown, of Alpharetta, said they are in the process of building a chicken coop in the back of the studio and she would like to add to the two chickens and two bunnies already there.

“We would like kids to be hands-on with the animals,” she said. “Kids come in here and most of them are just enamored with the few animals that we do have.”

Brown also wants to see multimedia art classes, children’s cooking classes and an outdoor garden eventually at Farmhouse in the City.

Donovan is pleased with the direction the new owners are taking the business she created in 2006.

“They hit the ground running, and they just do an amazing job,” she said.

Brown said when she and Egan learned Donovan was selling the studio, they thought it would be an interesting venture to pursue. The two have been friends since high school and are both mothers of young children who have had parties at Farmhouse in the City.

Although only a month and a half into her new position, Egan said she is fulfilled by bringing happiness to the children that come to the studio.
