King’s Ridge Christian School will be transformed into a county fair April 14 complete with a dunk tank, petting zoo and mechanical bull.
“It’s a fundraiser for the school,” said event co-chair Jen Barden. “It’s also just a way to involve our whole school community and hopefully the outside community as well. It’s open to everybody.”
The school’s parent club developed the event last year. Barden said she hopes the fair will be a repeat success.
“It went great last year,” she said. “We had lots of people. It was a beautiful day, and we netted over $40,000. We’re hoping to do even better this year.”
About 500 attendees turned out for the inaugural King’s Ridge County Fair. Barden said she hopes this year’s attendance will reach 700.
There will be something for everyone at the fair. For children, there will be carnival games, laser tag, inflatables, a moon bounce and a spinning ride.
“We have a bunch of attractions,” Barden said. “The mechanical bull, the bungee jump and the rock wall are all three things that most kids love doing.”
The fair will also feature a silent auction and about 20 artisan vendors.
“The vendors are a big thing for the adults while the kids are running around playing,” Barden said.
Something new to this year’s event is Putt for Porsche — a contest to put golf skills to use for a chance to win a new car, she added.
“Hennessy Porsche is bringing a 2013 Boxster convertible Porsche valued at $65,000,” she said. “There’ll be two elimination rounds of putting. If your name gets drawn for the final round, you’ll have the opportunity to do a long-range putt and if you make it, you win the Porsche.”
There’s a $50 entry fee to try your hand at winning the convertible. For all other games and activities, wristbands and tickets will be available at the door. Wristbands are $20 each and tickets are $1 each and come in quantities of five, 10 or 20.
“The different attractions have different amounts associated with them,” Barden said.
The money the parent Club receives from its fundraisers throughout the year goes to supplement the school’s educational needs and requests related to extracurricular activities, fine arts and athletics.
