The city will buy the trucks for a total of $4.7 million, with a trade-in of $1.2 million, leaving the city to finance a total of $3.5 million, which is allocated in the fire department’s budget, according to Finance Director Karen Ellis.
Four of the new trucks will be quints, with the remaining two being engine-pumpers.
The city also unanimously passed a resolution authorizing a change order under contract with Motorola for the purchase of radio communications equipment, amending the contract to add the cities of Alpharetta, Milton and Roswell.
The total price of the equipment, not to exceed $16 million, will not change. When the city approved the contract in December, it was the sole purchaser of the equipment and did so to receive discounts with Motorola.
The city’s percentage of the contract is 29.68, equating to about $4.7 million.
Last night marked the first approval of the reapportionment of city council districts, but the council must approve the reapportionment twice before it is put into law.
The council will vote on the reapportionment again at its next meeting, April 2.
In other news, the city is expected to gain another hotel, the Sandy Springs Grand Bohemian Hotel, sometime next year after the council extended the hotel’s land disturbance permit for another six months at Tuesday night’s meeting.
According to a hotel representative, construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014.
“We’re confirmed on this location and this market,” said the representative. “We continue to see good numbers coming from the Sandy Springs Hospitality [and Tourism Board] reports.”
The hotel will have 275 rooms. Grand Bohemians are luxury hotels under the Marriott Corp. umbrella. The Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando’s rates start at $279 per night.
