Sometimes the performance of one player can spark a team’s turn in the right direction. Mundy’s Mill senior No. 1 player Sidni Jones has been that catalyst.

“Everything plays off of the No. 1,” Mundy’s Mill girls’ tennis coach Lisa Ward said. “If No. 1 is on, the rest of the team kind of follows the leader. Since she started winning, the whole team has gotten a different attitude and outlook. It changed the entire team.”

Ward also spoke about how Jones’ belief in her ability played a major role in her resurgence and the team‘s.

“She started the season out slow so we had to build that confidence level,” Ward said. “Once we built that confidence level in her she hasn’t lost since.”

Then Jones could also see her improvements as a player.

“I’ve gotten better at handling fast serves and stroking the ball, keeping it in court and hitting the ball where I want it to go,” she said.

After graduation, Jones, who has a 3.5 grade-point average, will attend Tuskegee in the fall and major in biology with hopes of becoming an obstetrician.

“My best friend’s mother has been taking us there for different events ever since we were little kids,” Jones said.
