With his right shoulder almost back to normal, Woodward Academy senior Jonathan Pryor is ready to help the War Eagles finish the season strong before joining the Wake Forest program.

As a result of tearing his right labrum sometime between his sophomore and junior season, the centerfielder Pryor decided to have surgery in October and has missed all 12 games this season.

“It’s really tough being out,” said Pryor on March 21. “It’s really humbling to know how hard it is to be out while my team is playing. It makes me want to work harder when I get back too.”

Pryor, who decided to play baseball at Wake Forest next year, hopes to return to the lineup this week and help Woodward remain above the .500 mark after an 0-4 start this season.

“The program is really on an incline,” Pryor said. “Also I’m the only outfielder in my class so I have a great chance to play as a freshman. It was the best opportunity for me with all the schools I looked at.”

During his time in Winston-Salem, N.C., Pryor, who has a 3.3 grade-point average, plans to major in business. He would also like to work in some facet of baseball after his playing days are over.
