The junior outfielder / relief pitcher has been a key contributor for the Wolfpack.
For starters, he’s been swinging a hot bat — he’s 12 for 21 with 10 singles, two homeruns and seven RBI over the course of the past five games.
The highlight game during that run has to be his solid outing against Eagle’s Landing. Smith singled and went yard en route to going for 3 for 3 at the plate.
“The thing is, even when he makes outs, he hits the ball hard,” said Woodland coach Michael Hardy. “He goes up there [to the plate] with a good approach.
“He’s a good situational hitter … and he knows when he gets two strikes he has to shorten his swing and make contact on the ball.”
Smith, who’s played on the varsity squad since his freshman year, hits No. 3 in the Wolfpack batting order.
Just as he has up to this point, look for Smith to continue to make good things happen.
