The fundraiser will be at the Polo Golf and Country Club in Cumming on April 29, starting with registration at 9 a.m. Cpt. Kirk Harth with the Alpharetta Public Safety Department said he hopes the event will become a regular fundraiser for the foundation.
“We’ve got a couple other fundraisers that are very successful and just a lot of fun,” he said. “We do a chili cook-off, and we do a Red and Blue Dinner where we have police and fire fighters cook for folks down at Benihana restaurant.”
The idea for a golf fundraiser is something that has been on the back-burner for a while, Harth said. He is hoping the event will cap off at about 100 golfers.
“We’re hoping we get that kind of group up there,” he said. “That’s what we’re working towards.”
Interested participants should register now, he added. The entry fees are $250 for individuals or $1,000 for a team of four. The fee includes breakfast, a boxed lunch, beverages, an hors d’oeuvres reception and a player goody bag. There will also be giveaways, prizes, contests and a silent auction.
“We’re just going to try to put on a great event for folks,” Harth said. “We’ll try to have a fun atmosphere and [participants can] meet some fire fighters and police officers and some of the other workers with the city.”
The money raised from the tournament will benefit the Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation.
“They help with some equipment that might not have been budgeted but is just good for us and the community,” Harth said. “They put some life-saving tools in the hands of police. I carry a trauma tourniquet all the time, because they bought trauma tourniquets for all the police officers.”
The foundation also helps provide financial assistance to public safety personnel who experience personal crises, such as a fire at home or the unexpected serious illness of a family member.
“I can’t tell you the times they’ve come to the aid of officers and fire fighters,” Harth said. “We’re all human dealing with life’s events.”
The Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation was formed in 2006 as a nonprofit organization to support the city’s public safety department.
