“I really want to win state and that has driven me to try harder and do what I need to do to get to that point,” said Egbosiuba, who finished fourth in the triple jump at the state finals last year.
Egbosiuba has been right there with the best competition this season as well, placing first in the triple jump at Need for Speed IV and no lower than fourth at three other events.
“She is the type of kid that when it is time to jump her best with the competition, she will jump her best,” Banneker track and field coach Juval Winston said. “She is not afraid to step out there and continue to get better.”
Egbosiuba, who is a bigger fan of the triple jump, has also done well in the long jump this season.
“The triple jump is different,” she said. “People don’t understand it and they have to be taught how to do it.”
In the classroom, Egbosiuba owns a 4.0 grade-point average and has an interest in microbiology. She plans to attend Georgia or Vanderbilt.
