Gordon, one-half of Dunwoody’s potent No. 1 doubles tandem, has been giving opponents fits all season while giving her coach plenty of reason to smile.
“Claire is lethal at the net and is hard to lob since she has a great reach and moves well,” said Lady Wildcats coach Caryn Gartner. “But, more than that, Claire is the most consistent player
on the team.
“She is steady with her ground strokes and runs to the net with attitude and a mission to win each point.”
Gordon and partner Caroline Melton have helped keep Dunwoody afloat during a challenging season.
“Claire is calm under fire and knows how to adjust her game to beat the most challenging of opponents,” said Gartner. “The two of them together know how to win.”
Gordon, a junior, has taken on a leadership role — no easy feat, given the team’s senior-laden roster.
“At practice, she sets the tone
for others,” Gartner said. “She does her ‘talking’ on the court and has a maturity about
her that sets her apart.
“Claire is the epitome of what hard work will do for your game … her consistency and strong
put-away volleys are the reason why she is part of my No. 1 doubles team.”
