The Adairsville girls’ soccer team is currently 7-7 for the season. While their record is even, there is one player playing above-average: senior striker Cassidy Greene.

Beginning her high school soccer career as a freshman starter on varsity, Greene always has been a good player but picked up a few tricks along the way, head coach David Sexauer said.

“Cassidy has gotten better each year,” he said. “She has started every match of her career. Cassidy has always had great skills and footwork but she has become more savvy each year.”

Greene is described by Sexauer as a “dynamic player” with a “striker’s heart.” He also said she brings leadership, fitness and a love of soccer, while helping to keep the team focused at practice and games.

As a two-year captain for the team, Greene leads by example, her coach said.

“[She] expects the best from her players,” he said. “She leads by example in technical understanding of the game. She works with many players to improve their fundamentals.”

This season Greene’s best game, according to Sexauer, was on March 8 when the Tigers hosted and defeated Ringgold 4-1.

Sexauer said Greene played well offensively as she had two goals and one assist, but her defensive pressure on Ringgold’s midfielder “helped preserve the win.”

“We defeated at the time the 10th-ranked team in the state. … This may have been the biggest win in program history,” said the coach.

Greene has yet to sign a soccer scholarship, but is currently in final tryouts and discussions with some schools.
