After three months of practice and meets, region championships two weeks ago and a heated round of sectional qualifying last weekend, 46 boys track and field stars are left standing in north Fulton.

Those 46 elite athletes are now putting in the final preparations for the state’s biggest event, the Georgia Olympics — to be held this Thursday through Saturday at Jefferson High School.

Leading that group of state qualifiers are 10 boys from Roswell High School, a group that helped the Hornets claim a region 5AAAAAA championship late last month and hopes to make a push towards the podium in Jefferson.

Richard Delphin (discus and shot-put) will compete this weekend as a favorite to medal in both throwing events for Roswell and will be joined in the field by long jumper Bennett Barton.

October Scott (100) and Andrew Kwateng (200) are Roswell’s top sprinters, three-time state qualifier Drew Kelley (1600, 3200) will compete in distance events and both the Hornets 4X100 (Isaiah Garris, Scott, Kwateng, Obos Ikpefan) and 4X400 (Madison Evans, Tanner Hayes, Daniel Meier, Ikpefan) relay teams will run toward the podium this weekend.

Others AAAAAA contenders include six athletes each from Centennial, Johns Creek and five from Alpharetta.

The Knights will be represented by Alex Richemond (100, long jump), Josiah Robinson (300 hurdles), Lloyd Glenn (shot put) and a speedy 4X100 team (Caden Herring, Richemond, Mekhi Richardson, Kola Bolagun).

Johns Creek’s Matt Azemar (200), Erik Olsen (800), Will Somers (110-hurdles, 300-hurdles), Austin Wright (pole vault) and 4X400 team (Olsen, Scott Mohr, Sachit Gowda, Azemar) will compete for the Gladiators.

Zach Gunnz (200), Andre Harton (high jump), DeAndre Watkins (triple jump) and a 4X400 team (John Faicher, Gunnz, Harton, Matias Lepparanta) will run for Alpharetta.

Milton is sending three to state — Nate Reich (800, 1600), Miles Dayoub (1600) and Preston Hinkel (pole vault) — while Chattahoochee is sending just one, Travis Rachel (400).

In Class AAAAA, Northview’s Josh Salter qualified in two events (1600, 3200) and Matt Rhulin (800) in another. Cambridge will be represented by Hawk Hammer (pole vault).

In Class AAA the Titans of Blessed Trinity will send distance runners Ben Sowell (800, 1600), Billy Kuzel (800), Matt Munns (3200) and Patrick O’Grady (3200) to compete on the track. Will Check (pole vault) and Michael Yates (discus) will partake in the field events.

In Class A, Mount Pisgah qualified Carson Howe (400), Grant Hicks (800) and both their 4X100 (Max Aden, Austin Harper, Howe, John O’Connor) and 4X400 (Aden, Ian Ainsworth, Hicks, Howe) relay teams.
