In just her freshman season of high school track, the accolades are piling up fast for Dunwoody speedster Molly Jackson.

The mid-distance specialist won a DeKalb County Track and Field Championship on April 1 in the 800-meters, captured individual 6AAAAA championships in both the 400 and 800 on April 18, and blazed past a field of the state’s best athletes at the 6AAAAA sectionals April 24 — placing first in both events and qualifying for this weekend’s GHSA State Track and Field meet in Albany in the process.

“She was new to the team this year but [came in] extremely mature to be a freshman,” said Dunwoody track and field coach Shannon Miller of Jackson. “She broke the school record in the 400 in her first meet of the season and has continually gotten better, breaking her own school record again in [the region championship meet].”

Jackson’s school record 400 time of 56.44 is the second fastest time in Class AAAAA this season and her season best time in the 800 of 2:15.34 is the fastest in Georgia this season. She is also running on Dunwoody’s top-ranked 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams in Albany this weekend.

“She is a great athlete and a student of the sport,” said Miller of his talented freshman. “At such a young age she is off to a great start and I am looking forward to seeing how she grows over the next three years.”
