A number of local teams are still alive in their quests for championships as the state baseball playoffs enter the second round.

Each team will play a best-of-three series, with the first two games scheduled for Wednesday and the third game, if needed, to be played Thursday.

Riverwood swept Dunwoody in two games in the first round of the AAAAA playoffs Friday. The Raiders won the first game 3-1 and the second contest 6-4 to advance to a second-round series at Loganville.

“We really were carried in the first game by our starting pitcher,” Riverwood coach Mike Santoro said. “David Teljovich threw game one for us a complete game and did a really, really good job of keeping the Dunwoody batters off balance.”

In Class AAAAA, North Atlanta’s season came to an end after losing to Kell in two games — falling 6-1 in the first game and 3-1 in game two.

In Class AA, Westminster got the postseason off to a good start with a two-game sweep of Model in its first-round series last Friday.

The Wildcats won the first game 7-3, and then completed the sweep with a 9-0 win to advance to a second-round series at home against Jordan.

Lovett joins its archrival in the next round after sweeping Calhoun in two games — winning the first game 11-0 and the second contest 3-1. The Lions host Bremen Wednesday.

“I thought we had some really good outings in the first two games,” Lovett coach Lance Oubs said. “I thought we had some really good outings from our starting pitchers and we hit the ball good.”

Holy Innocents’ split the first two games of its Class A private series with Mount Pisgah, losing the first game 4-0 and taking the second contest 13-5, before clinching the series with a 9-2 win in game three.

The Golden Bears will travel to Eagle's Landing Christian for their quarterfinal series.

In AAAA, Marist swept River Ridge in its first-round series Friday, winning game one 9-0 and the second contest 7-0.

The War Eagles will now host Carrollton in a second-round seroes.

Woodward advanced to the second round of the AAA playoffs with a sweep of White County.

The War Eagles — who will play at Cartersville in the second round — won 5-2 in the first game and 9-0 in game two.

Blessed Trinity also advanced in AAA after winning both of its first-round games over Dawson County. The Titans won 10-0 in the first game and 4-2 in the second contest to move on to a second-round series at home with Jackson County.

St. Pius X split its first two AAA first-round series’ games with Buford — taking the first contest 4-2 and losing game two 2-1. The Golden Lions won the third and deciding contest 9-7 to win the series 2-1 and advance to a second-round series at North Oconee.
